Children sitting outside their home on the dump
Cameron Graham writes:
My last trip to the dump this summer four Ecuadorian youth leaders came
with us. They are all members of the church in Carmen Bajo, a desperately poor neighborhood in Quito.
Afterward during our debriefing there were several 'normal' reactions to the poverty and filth and the children running around in it all.
Then Alanso spoke. "I used to live in the dump," he said. As you might
imagine, all became perfectly still as every eye turned to focus on him. This man, our friend, with
who we all had been working and playing with the last three days, used to live in the dump?!?
He continued, "I remember seeing the buses pull in and running to stand in line to get food. That food was
our food for the day. It saved us. Today my life came full circle and instead of receiving today, I got to give. God has brought me out of so much, and although I do not have much to give, it was incredible to get to use my little to help. “
And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones...
