TO THINK ABOUT

  • 40% of the population under 18
  • Of 3.8 million Peruvians in extreme poverty 2.1 million are children
  • 250,000 children work in downtown Lima
  • 80% of those children are under 12
  • 93% of children attend primary school

MINISTRIES

Two Anglican schools one each in Arequipa and Lima, diocesan outreach to poor children through a childcare center, nursery school, after school program and San Josè children’s home. SAMS missionaries Allen and Rachel Hill have been instrumental in helping their local church to develop an outreach to youth through a Saturday college preparation academy for children with inadequate resources to seek university admission and a weekly youth ministry that includes Happening. SAMS missionaries John and Susan Park are newly arrived to Lima but through their congregation they will be involved social ministries to children in many of the shanty areas.
