  • The Anglican Church is involved in significant ministries to marginalized indigenous groups and to the urban poor.
  • Prison ministry has revolutionized the nation's jails. By 1996 half of the 3,000 inmates in Olmos high security prison were believers.
  • From the defeat of dictatorship in the Falklands/Malvinas war in 1982 have come significant changes leading to religious hunger, democratic government and economic recovery.

Geography:

  • Area: 2.8 million sq. km. (1.1 million sq. mi.); about the size of the U.S. east of the Mississippi River; second-largest country in South America.
  • Climate: Varied--predominantly temperate with extremes ranging from subtropical in the north to arid/sub Antarctic in far south.

  • Roman Catholicism has state support, but there is freedom of religion and considerable respect for Evangelicals.
  • Abundant natural resources were squandered by inept governments for most of the 20th century. Since 1989 inflation has been tamed, corruption exposed and restructuring promoted, but there is still much poverty.
